The Manual

"Pastor, I believe. I've believed my whole life. But if you walked through my house on a Tuesday evening, you wouldn't know it."

In thirty years of ministry I have sat at more kitchen tables than I can count, and I have heard that confession more than any other. It is not a confession of scandal. It is quieter than that, and it hurts more. The sermons get watched. The amens get said. And then Monday comes, and the house runs on the same fuel as every other house on the street — hurry, worry, screens, and leftovers.

Not because the faith isn't real. Because nobody ever sat that believer down and showed them, plainly, how. How to pray when the words won't come. How to open the Book without drowning by Leviticus. How to bless a child out loud without feeling foolish. How to forgive a person who never once said sorry.

Our grandmothers knew these things. They didn't call them "practices." They called them Tuesday. This manual is those things, written down plainly — the Scripture, the reason, and the step-by-step. You do not need to do all thirty. Read the first pages, pick three, and begin. A house is not built in a weekend, but every house that was ever built started with somebody laying one true stone.

The Difference

Two houses on the same street. The same Sunday faith.

The house that runs on hurryThe house built on the Word
The phone gets the first ten minutes of the dayThe Morning Watch — ten minutes with God before the world gets its hands on you
Prayers that trail off when the words won't comeThe exact words, printed on the page, until your own arrive
A Bible plan that drowns by LeviticusA reading path built to survive February
Grace at the table, mumbled or skippedA blessing over every plate, even the thin ones
Resolutions, abandoned by the whole houseA "Begin This Week" box too small to talk yourself out of

Small and faithful beats big and abandoned, every single time. Our Lord said it Himself: the kingdom is a mustard seed.

What's Inside

Book I · Practices 1–12

Prayer

The foundation under everything else — the Morning Watch, the Four Rooms of Prayer, praying the Scriptures, the Prayer Book & the Answer Column, praying over your children by name, grace at the table, the Dry Season, prayer for the anxious night, and the Evening Review.

Book II · Practices 13–22

The Word

A Bible habit that holds — the Fifteen-Minute Table, the reading path that survives Leviticus, memory work that sticks past Sunday, and how to keep a sermon so it keeps you.

Book III · Practices 23–30

The Marriage

Praying together when it feels awkward, quarreling by the Book, the weekly hour, the Repair — and a practice written specially for the reader who is the only one praying under their roof.

Every Practice · The Same Four Parts

The Word · The Why · The How · Begin This Week

The Scripture it stands on. The honest reason it matters and what it will cost you. Numbered steps plain enough to start tonight — with the very words printed where words are the hard part. And the smallest faithful version, small enough that you cannot talk yourself out of it.

From Readers' Houses

★★★★★

"Forty years a believer and nobody ever showed me the how. The Morning Watch took me one page to understand and one week to need. The phone waits now. It can learn patience too."

— Ernest · South Carolina, USA
★★★★★

"I bought it for the prayer section and stayed for the marriage one. 'Quarreling by the Book' should cost more than the whole manual does. We tried the Repair on a Tuesday. We needed it by Friday."

— Denise · Michigan, USA
★★★★★

"The Anxious Night prayer is taped inside my nightstand drawer. Having the words printed for when mine won't come — that alone was worth it. My mother would have called this book Tuesday."

— Brother Calvin · Georgia, USA

About Pastor Holloway

Pastor Elijah Holloway

I'm Elijah Holloway. I have pastored for thirty years, and the truest work of those years did not happen in the pulpit — it happened at kitchen tables, sitting with believers who loved the Lord on Sunday and couldn't find Him in the house by Tuesday.

This manual is not theology from a tower. It is the practices I have handed across those tables for three decades — the ones our grandmothers kept without naming, written down plainly at last, with the Scripture, the reason, and the steps. I share the Word on my channel every week. This is how a house keeps it.

Questions

Do I have to do all thirty practices?

Nobody does all thirty. Read the first pages, pick three, and begin. The reader who keeps three practices for a month builds a household; the reader who tries fifteen in a week builds a guilty conscience and a closed book. Small and faithful beats big and abandoned.

What if I'm the only believer in my house?

The last practice in the manual was written for you — When Only One Is Praying. It is honest about the ache, and it is practical: keep every practice you can keep alone, visibly but not performatively, and let your house watch. Souls do not surrender to pressure.

Is this a book of rules?

No. It is not a book for becoming perfect — it is a book for becoming faithful. There is a difference, and the difference is grace. Every practice comes with its smallest faithful version, so grace has somewhere to start.

Which Bible translation does it use?

The King James Version, held in trust by every generation of the church and quoted with reverence. The practices themselves work alongside whichever Bible your house reads.

How is it delivered?

It's a PDF — on your phone, tablet, or printed at home. The prayers and the words-to-say are made to be printed and put where you'll see them: the refrigerator, the Bible, the nightstand. A practice you can see is a practice you keep.
